The jury that will choose a design for a World Trade Center memorial has a lot of work ahead.
Officials say 5200 individuals and groups from around the world have submitted proposals. They came in from every U.S. state except Alaska, and from 62 countries.
The finalists will be announced in September, and a winner will be chosen later in the fall. The competition was open to anyone over age 18 who paid a fee of $25.
Organizers say it's a record number of responses in a design competition for a memorial. There were 1,400 submissions for the Vietnam Memorial in Washington.
The trade center memorial will include references to the 1993 bombing of the building, as well as the 9-11 attacks. It will be built on a site that includes the "footprints" where the twin towers stood.
