The Jackson County Sheriff's Office along with other agencies raided 2 gambling houses: the “Children's Cancer Cooperative” in Campbelton, and the “Allied Veterans 42” on highway 90.
This comes after citizens filed numerous complaints over the last several months on these facilities.
"This is not a legitimate operation" says Jackson County Sheriff Lou Roberts.
That's also what several other Florida State Agencies say about 2 gambling houses in Jackson County.
Preliminary investigations show they were being directed by out of state locations... But not abiding by Florida sweepstake laws.
"In this particular case, we are not aware of anything they are receiving as far as a product. They are also able to cash their winnings there on the spot and receive a cash prize. They also reload their card that they are using. We just do not feel that it meets the criteria set by Florida Statures" says Sheriff Roberts.
Though looks can be deceiving, these are not slot or bingo machines.
They are based by a company that runs through the internet.
"Each Computer had a separate station with a chair, each patron would be provided with food and drink. They also had an ATM on location where they could actually replenish their cash flow. They were going through quite a bit of money in one month"
Computers, documents, money and guns were found on the site as well as a trailer.
Officials say management may have been using that to count their profits in.
"We found a lot of records and surveillance cameras" says Sheriff Roberts.
Both gaming facilities are very similar, though each is owned by a separate company.
They are believed to have separate owners however they share the same attorney.
Sheriff Roberts is also suspicious about the names chosen for these venues.
"If you attach a name that is a reputable group or organization, it tries to legitimize what they are doing. That is something I don't think is right".
The Sheriff's Office did checks on everyone inside both facilities at the time of the raid and arrested one patron on unrelated charges.
The management staff was free to go, so no one has been arrested in connection with these operations.
The owners of these facilities were not present at the time of the raid.
Both have been notified to report to Florida Courts, where their consequences will be determined.
Earlier in 2009 in a News 4 report, Florida department of Agriculture representatives said the operation in Campbellton was within the law "On paper", but a more detailed investigation could very well reveal otherwise.
The President of the "Children's Cancer Cooperative", Harold Dukes is also the owner of multiple gaming locations in South Carolina.
