MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama's broadband initiative has launched a Web site that allows visitors to test the speed of their Internet connection and share stories about how high-speed service helps their families and businesses.
Gov. Bob Riley launched the Connecting Alabama broadband initiative last year to expand coverage and use of high-speed Internet. Riley says broadband service for every community is essential to Alabama's success.
Connecting Alabama is not an Internet service provider.
The director of the initiative, Kathy Johnson, says maps are being developed to show unserved and underserved communities across the state. The maps will be on the new Web site when completed.
The Web site is: www.ConnectingAlabama.gov
