Authorities in Southwest Georgia say two people are dead after an apparent murder-suicide.
The incident happened around 2:15 on Washington St. Monday afternoon in Fort Gaines, Georgia.
Investigators believe Heard rammed his pick-up truck into his girlfriends car as she attempted to leave the house the couple recently bought.
Clay County Sheriff Roger Shivers says 40-year-old Eddie Heard Jr. then got out of his car and shot and killed his 29-year-old girlfriend Angela Sands. Sheriff Shivers says investigators believe Heard then turned a .44 caliber magnum revolver on himself.
The couple has reportedly been together for the past 8 to 10 years and has a history of domestic disturbances. Sheriff Shivers said the couple "recently called law enforcement because of issues between the two."
A number of law enforcement agencies rushed to the scene because the original situation was unclear.
"It got really confused there for a few moments," added Shivers. "We didn't know if an officer was injured in the process or if a suspect had fled the scene. We had a lot of response from different areas."
Henry County, AL and Colquitt County, GA among others assisted in controlling large crowds that gathered around the scene.
This case is another reminder that domestic cases can turn deadly fast.
"Today we have all kinds of things to make themselves available to. We got temporary protective orders, we've got half way houses for woman and children. We have anger management for the men, but it is just the fact that they need to participate in those programs if they are having problems."
The couple are believed to have two children together.
"If you can't get along there are easier ways to do it than this."
