BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A survey of campaign finance records shows gambling interests gave nearly $2.6 million to Alabama campaigns during the 2006 elections.
The Birmingham News surveyed records and found that dog track operator Milton McGregor and his companies were the biggest donors. They gave more than $1.8 million to candidates and political action committees.
The Poarch Bank of Creek Indians was next with more than $513,000 in donations. The Creek tribe operates casinos in Atmore, Wetumpka and Montgomery.
