Many people in the Wiregrass were shocked and disappointed by the Army's announcement to cancel its Comanche helicopter program. Army officials made the announcement after deciding that the funds would be better used elsewhere.

But, after hearing that the resources would be reallocated to Army aviation, local officials say the decision could be a win for Fort Rucker.

Fort Rucker had invested in a new building for Comanche training and employed 30 people for the program. Officials say they will be able to reprogram the resources.

Ozark Mayor Bob Bunting says this could be a positive for Fort Rucker, if they take the estimated $15 billion and spend it on additional Black Hawks and other helicopters.

Bunting says Senate and House hearings are scheduled next week where our congressional delegation will be watching closely to make sure the money stays in Army aviation.
