DeFuniak Springs, FL – North Walton Mosquito Control officials are offering to pick up old tires from residents living north of the Choctawhatchee Bay.
The free service will last from November through February.
Brenda Hunt of North Walton Mosquito Control says old tires left in yards collect water and become breeding grounds for several species of mosquitoes, some which are linked to diseases.
“It’s important for us to collect these unwanted tires from residents,” she says, “because we can help reduce the mosquito population in our area by properly disposing of these tires.
Residents don’t have to worry about traveling to the landfill with the tires, since we will provide that service from November through February for free.”
Hunt says North Walton Mosquito Control will only handle the rubber portion of tires and not the rims.
Workers will not pick up tires generated by commercial entities. Businesses may contact the county landfill at 892-8180 to inquire about tire disposal.
Walton County residents living north of Choctawhatchee Bay who wish to have old tires removed from their property by North Walton Mosquito Control from November through February may call (850) 892-8183.
