Henry County commissioners have voted to allow county workers and equipment to be used to clean out several ditches in the area that are bogged down with debris and trash.
The city of Headland is about to undergo several much needed improvements.
Headland Street and Sanitation Superintendent Steve Pitts said, "Our drainage system is old and it's overgrown with bushes and trees and overgrowth. [Therefore], when we do get heavy rain it can push water out. So, the county is going to help us clear that debris out."
Tuesday, Henry County commissioners voted to allow county workers and equipment to be used to clean out several debris-filled ditches in Headland.
Superintendent Pitts added, “If it's like we had last year, we can't handle it. So, we are trying to be proactive and prevent problems from happening in the future.”
Henry County Commissioner Franklin Swann lives in Headland and sees the need for the project. “The citizens of the county all use the park where the ditch is and it accumulates trash and debris. We want to improve that so everyone will have a better way of life,” he said.
The drainage work should take no more than one work week to complete.
The drainage work is set to begin in the coming two to three weeks.
