A local organization is attempting to improve the wiregrass community by preaching the Christian mission.

His Fortress Ministries is a group that set up shop at the Dothan Civic Center all weekend.

They're inviting everybody to come check out what they're all about.

Some local Christians are on a mission.

“We're trying to bring people out here to glorify God,” said Theresa Adams with His Fortress Ministries.

Her group took over the Dothan Civic Center Saturday and Sunday.

The goal: to put people on the right path.

“To me there's not really a word for it you just have to experience it for yourself, it's something that you don't want to leave out of your life,” said volunteer Michelle Fulford.

“They've helped me in several situations and areas of my life and I wanted to return the favor,”

Judy Goodman is a volunteer at the event and says the Christian community helped in her time of need.

“They've set me on the right path. They've been a big influence on me, they changed my life and influenced me to the point where I feel like it's turned my life around personally,” said Goodman.

Adams says the event isn't just for Christians.

“But if you're not a Christian and you want to come out and want to learn more about Christian churches and missions and how God works, that's what it's for,” said Adams.

“There are people out here who just genuinely care,” said Goodman.

Adams says she helped two people find the lord with this event; an achievement she says is beyond satisfying.

“They both accepted Jesus Christ as their lord and savior now to me that is worth this whole thing,” said Adams.

“I will never be as blessed I don't believe at that moment when that happened and I’m still basking in the glory of the whole thing,” she added.

As for Goodman, she says she'll continue to help those who've helped change her life for the better.

“I want to get involved and stay involved with them spiritually. They’ve helped me emotionally and in every level,” said Goodman.

Organizers say turnout was pretty light this year.

They hope to get the word out about the event so that next year, they get a lot of local churches, preachers, and residents involved.
