Between the Coffee County Sheriff's Office and the Enterprise Police Department there were 85 drug related arrests in the month of October including five meth labs.
News 4's Denise Bradberry found out today that the county's next step to continue the fight is on four legs
For New Brockton resident Vernon Culver drug arrest numbers for Coffee County weren't surprising.
"It makes me feel good about it that they're trying to get the drugs off the street because what you find with most people around here they're breaking into things to get the money to buy drugs"
Sheriff Dave Sutton says they're cracking down because he made a promise.
"She had a drug dealer living right next door to her that was involved in some heavy meth. We've been very busy trying to curb the drug problem in this county to keep my promise to that little girl and I did tell her we would do our best to make her yard safe."
Now the sheriff's office will have a new way to help fight crime and they'll have some four legged help
18 volunteer posse members mounted on horseback are currently going through training to be able to aid the sheriff's office help eradicate drugs.
"We get into some entangled areas or some large scaled areas, horses can go through a lot of areas that humans normally can't traffic through."
The posse will also be used in situations where there are large crowds or a child goes missing.
"If we have a situation develop that we need them either in crowd control or search and rescue we simply pick up our phones, alert them. They will come in, meet us wherever they need to be and they'll go into action.
Although sugar and snoopy are spending today grazing in the pasture they're sure to be a huge help if that call comes in.
You'll get to see the mounted posse in action for the first time at this year's Christmas parade.
