That's why troy university is partnering with the Alabama attorney general's office.
Alabama Attorney General Troy King said, "With the forensics capabilities of Troy and the investigative resources of my office we announce today that the good work we've been doing together is expanding."
A computer forensics program is now up and running in Troy, Alabama.
It's helping law enforcement across the state get the training they need fight crime more effectively.
King said, "To all of the people in Alabama who watch CSI I want to reassure them that their state is on the cutting edge of technology with this unit."
There is of course one major difference between Troy's crime lab and CSI.
King said, "I guess we should tell them rarely will we solve a crime in an hour but we do remain committed to getting it done as quickly as possible."
Already the program is making a positive difference across the state.
Troy University Chancellor Jack Hawkins said, "They already in working with law enforcement agencies have dealt with more than 80 cases and we are proud of the work they are doing."
The lab equipment is made possible by a 463-thousand dollar federal grant.
One of the main goals of the program is to help state and local law enforcement personnel develop adequate skills for the handling of electronic devices.
