DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) - A 13-year-old Webb Elementary student is being held in a juvenile detention after making a verbal threat against a teacher and making a reference to Virginia Tech.
The student was arrested Tuesday - a day after Houston County Sheriff Andy Hughes enacted a zero tolerance policy against using the words "Virginia Tech" in reference to threats against students and teachers. The student, whose name is being withheld because he's a juvenile, was charged with making a terrorist threat.
School officials said they became aware of the threat Monday and called the sheriff's office. No weapons were found and no threats appeared to be made against students or other teachers.
Tuesday's arrest comes after some parents at Northview High School removed their children from school on Monday when they learned four students had been arrested for making terrorist threats for comments they posted on an Internet chat site.
