The Coffee County Family Service Center has received a grant to fund programs that aid about 150 families at any given time.
The Alabama Department of Abuse and Neglect Prevention gave the Family Service Center a $163,000 check.
The money will go for home visitation programs and parenting education.
"They have the heart. They have the desire and they have the ability to work with the people of Coffee County and it is just a pleasure that we once again can come and make this presentation,” says Milton Jackson with the Alabama Department of Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention.
Former Elba City Schools Superintendent Danny Weeks has been named the new Executive Director of the Coffee County Children's Policy Council.
The council was established in 2000 to evaluate the needs of children in Coffee County and to coordinate the services of agencies and organizations serving children.
Weeks says he's very excited about what they're going to do to help the children of Coffee County.
"We are blessed in Coffee County to have so many agencies that devote their time to the wellbeing of children in this county. I'm looking forward to working with them. I hope to visit with each one of them over the next few weeks and coordinate even more services,” says Weeks.
