It was a busy weekend for Jackson County sheriff's officials who shut down a gambling operation just across the Alabama border. Nearly $200,000 dollars of cash and gambling equipment were seized.
A month- long investigation by authorities culminated in the raid on a former produce store that turned into a small town casino.
The location, in Cambellton, Florida was home to nearly 100 gaming machines, all of which are now at the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
The building on 231 North was going by the name of Ricks Sweepstakes, formerly JR’s Produce.
Arrested at the scene were 56-year-old Lisa Coleman of Hanceville and 62-year-old William Smith of Ozark who were taken into custody for operating the gambling house.
More arrests are expected to come in the near future.
The fate of the machines from Ricks Sweepstakes is pending the outcome of the investigation. However, if Sheriff McDaniel gets the ok to seize the equipment, it will be destroyed.
The owner of the property where the seizure took place contacted News 4 Tuesday.
He believes there are several other locations taking part in the very same activities that have not yet been busted.
Officials are contacting the owner of Ricks Sweepstakes, Ricky Graveman of Cullman.
