Geneva, Ala. - Geneva County now has 18 roads closed from flooding.
Eight of those roads are out because of last week’s storm while ten of them were already closed from March flooding.
Road closure signs are reminding Geneva County residents of flooding damage left earlier this year.
The Geneva County Road and Bridge Department is estimating damage from last week's storm to add up to over $160,000.
“A lot of this is from the roads that had been previously just repaired; temporarily repaired and it just washed it out again or damaged the same roads we had before,” says Geneva County EMA Director Margaret Mixon.
FEMA crews will be making their own estimates and assessments in the coming days.
Geneva County has to have at least $83,000 worth of damage to received assistance.
With more roads washed out from last week's rain, they're just adding to the number of roads that are still closed from March flooding.
"We're just waiting for the federal money to come down to repair the roads because Geneva County is just not financially able to put all the money into the roads,” says Mixon, “We have seven bridges that are out.”
Geneva resident, Jerry Crutchfield showed me where the bridge on Sandy Creek Road had lifted up and floated down the creek over eight months ago.
“For people on this side, it’s not so inconvenient because they don’t have to travel the bridge much, but for the people on the other side, it's inconvenient to them just getting home," says Crutchfield.
With the amount of work needing to be done, Crutchfield hopes it will eventually be funded.
“We would just like to and hope that through FEMA and through the county that some work will be done on some of these bridges and get back to where people can have a normalsee to their life," says Crutchfield.
If you received property damage from recent flooding you're asked to report it to the Geneva County EMA Office at (334) 684-5677 in case individual financial assistance becomes available.
