WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama says he has no intention of sending American troops to Yemen or Somalia, but won't rule out the possibility.
Obama tells People magazine in an interview to be published
Friday that he does think "working with international partners is
most effective at this point." And he says he still believes the
center of al-Qaida activity is along the border between Afghanistan
and Pakistan.
Gen. David Petraeus, who oversees the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, tells CNN's "Amanpour" that Yemen's foreign minister has made it "quite clear that Yemen does not want to have American ground troops there."
Petraeus says the U.S. would always want a host nation to deal with a problem itself, but adds America wants to help and is "providing assistance."
Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Adm. Michael Mullen tells CNN's "Fareed Zakaria GPS" that "right now" there's no possibility of any kind of U.S. boots on the ground there.
