The job fair held at Fort Rucker offered a number of career opportunities for military families, veterans, retired service members and those transitioning from active duty.

The transition process from military to civilian life can be difficult, especially when jobs are scarce. That’s why CivilianJobs.com held Wednesday’s job fair for those in the military community.

“Making that transition out in the civilian world, you need to do your networking, meet these recruiters from these national and international companies. They stop - start their networking process," says Vicky Washington with CivilianJobs.com.

Civilian Jobs is supplementing what the Army Career and Alumni Program already offers.

“We teach them job search processes; we have job leads,” says Bryan Tharpe with ACAP.

There is something different about this job fair. Many of the applicants registered ahead of time so Civilian Jobs could match their skills with possible employers.

“Say an Army Aviator is getting out and he only wants to move to California and he has a background in aviation electronics or mechanics, something like that. Then every company that's attending the job fair today that is looking for that, that has a positions in California, he's going to know that in advance,” says Washington.

If you're a transitioning military family and you missed Wednesday’s job fair, ACAP will still be able to connect you with many of the employers with open positions.

“We'll have a list of the employers that were here today and can give them some contact information. Most of them have websites where they can see what’s available out there. In many cases you can fill out applications online for those jobs.”
