An investigation into the shooting of a Hartford man came to a halt after the victim told investigators he would not press charges.

Gregory Hatcher was found with two gunshot wounds in a cotton field off Rec Park Road in Hartford on Monday.

Police investigators say Hatcher told them late Monday night he would not press charges, and to stop the investigation.

According to witnesses, Hatcher was responding to a note on his car when he was shot twice, suffering wounds to his leg and back.

Hartford Police Chief Nick Finer said, “Investigation was developing; we actually had several suspects in mind on this and it came to a halt as soon as the victim said he didn't want anything done, no charges pressed. He basically just said drop it.”

Investigators say only special circumstances or a request from the victim will warrant a reopening of the case.

I think the law should get to the bottom of this..I want to thank the DA. for running with this we all have a right to know what is going on. This is real life not TV.Good job DA and Hartford PD for not letting this drop..You do the crime you should do the time..No matter what your name is..And some one shoots me I want to know why unless I have something to hide..Come on now GET FOR REAL...

This is very strange, Hartford is a small town and everyone knows everyone and we could let our children run and play outside and not worry about anything, now we are worryed about someone shooting us and noone knows the truth because Mr Hatcher says to drop it what are you hidding, There are so many stories in town right now noone knows the truth, but Hatcher. so why dont ya'll find the shooter and put him where he belongs behind bars and not on the streets so whoever cant do it again,,

Yes..this doesn't make sense. It seems like the police should proceed and find the shooter for the safety of the rest of the community. The victim should be treated as a hostile witness and the investigation should proceed.

I have heard such dumb stuff today on the news that even this does not surprise me. We are becoming a laughing stock as a nation. Where is the law in this??

AMAZING.......WE CAN CHOOSE OUR PUNISHMENT AND CRIME.....SOMEBODY SHOOTS ME AND IT'S ON! TRACK THEM DOWN LIKE DOGS!!! , (UNLESS I HAVE DONE SOMETHING ILLEGAL MYSELF THAT WOULD "COME OUT IN THE INVESTIGATION" ). REGARDLESS OF THE WISHES OF THE VICTIM, I THOUGHT "LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS" TOOK AN OATH TO [PROTECT AND SERVE]...SIMPLY AMAZING!!!

Something is wrong with this picture. How can the law just stop and do nothing when someone has attempted murder. One of two things is going on either Mr.Hatcher knows his attacker or he will take care of them his self and then the law will charge him.Is it really legal for the law to let someone get by with attempted murder?
