Recent crime in the area is prompting the erection of a fence in downtown Dothan.

The Houston County Commission is set to approve the construction at Monday’s County Administration meeting to protect both county employees and residents visiting the administration building.

The project will cost $24,000 dollars and is being built in response to concerns from many residents.

Chief Administrative Officer Bill Dempsey said, "We had a shooting across the street and people complaining about others approaching them and asking for money.”

Construction for the fence is expected to get underway within the next 60 to 90 days.
