Friends of the Houston-Love Memorial Library met last night with Mayor Pat Thomas to discuss the possible location for Dothan’s new library and the cost surrounding the structure.

Mayor Thomas proposed the 200 block of Foster Street as the site for the 60-thousand square foot structure.

He challenged the library board to raise 4- million dollars this year when that happens the city can kick in 10- million.

Mayor Thomas says a new library could symbolize Dothan.

He says about 500 people attend Houston-Love Memorial Library a day and expects a new library would double that--and boost downtown business.

How Many More Times??? How MANY more times are we going to attempt revitalizing downtown Dothan??? We have lived in Dothan since August 1969; and, I know that I have witnessed 3-4 times that we have spent taxpayers money to attempt this! Everytime I see it come up in the papers again and again… I say, “I need to voice my opinion.” Well… here goes!!! It is completely ir-responsible of our mayor, commissioners, businessmen, etc. to keep spending the citizens of Dothan’s hard-earned money to try to rebuild downtown Dothan. I will not support or vote for one more elected official who supports this idiotic project. Only the businessmen and a handful of others, who have offices in downtown Dothan or who have historical interests downtown, are the ones who continually talk of “rebuilding downtown Dothan”. I wholeheartedly support the historical part of this; but, we don't have to put the library in this ungodly location! Tax-payers need to vote on this!!!
