Alabama Senator Harri Anne Smith, of Slocomb, says no comment to Friday’s Associated Press article.

According to the article, she spent almost $20,000 from her state campaign account to pay expenses for her race for congress.

Senator Smith declared her candidacy for the seat held by the retiring Terry Everett in November.

Her first fundraiser was held in Dothan in February.

The senator had told the Associated Press that she immediately contacted the Federal Election Commission and filed an amended financial report as soon as she became aware of the error.

Smith is one of six Republicans running for the seat that Everett has held since 1992.
