Dothan’s new animal control ordinance committee held its inaugural meeting last night at the Doug Tew Community Center.

Commissioner John Craig selected 9 people to serve on the committee last week.

Most of last night’s discussion hinged on the issue of cats.

A majority of the committee feels that a neuter/spay program is the best solution.

Anything else is infringing on a cat owners right, to let their cat outside.

The committee will meet for the next three Monday on March 24th, 31st and April 7th at 6:00 at the Doug Tew Community Center.

What about the rights of people who work in their yards? Have cars parked in their driveways on which the cats sleep/and scratch? They defecate and urinate all over your property when they do not have ther own sand box. Then your hands and feet go into the odorus mess as you try to keep a nice yard. The across the street neighbor feeds all stray animals on her front porch. She is offended that I hate the extra cat that she keeps and claims is hers. Others animals seen feeding from the feeding tray on her porch are oppossum and rat and well and every other dog and cat that gets out in the neighborhood. What about my rights since her owner rights are so important. She owns another cat but since they fight this cat can not come inside.
