OAKDALE, La. (AP) - Former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman has left the federal prison at Oakdale after being released on appeal bond.

He says he remains upbeat despite being incarcerated for nine months on his conviction in a corruption case.

Siegelman said he lost his freedom, -quote- "I never lost faith."

The former governor left the prison in a black sport utility vehicle and stopped on the road outside the lockup to speak briefly to reporters. He wore a ragged shirt that appeared to be prison clothing.

He declined further comment. He said he would make a statement when he reaches his home in Birmingham.

He was placed in federal custody after being sentenced last June to more than seven years in prison on six bribery-related counts and one obstruction of justice count.

I belive Don Seiglman is a good person and was framed by the Republian party. I'm a Republican but I vote for who ever is the best candiate. (Democrat or Rebublican) I belive Seiglman would have been a better govenor than Riley.

Watch out Republicans you can only lie, cheat and steal for so long before you are caught. Don Seiglman has been locked up for no reason, I am so glad to see him out and back with his family. And it will be a glorious day when the Repubicans get what is coming to them and they are no longer in charge of our country. We will be so much better off.

Wow, 9 months. Average citizens would have done the full time to which they were sentenced. Another perfect example of our justice system hard at work protecting criminals.

Very good!! He was framed to begin with so the republican candidate would win the governor's seat.
