A Geneva County administrator was indicted by a grand jury and then arrested..

A grand jury has indicted Donna Jones on one count of using her position as county administrator for personal financial gain.

The investigation went as far back as January, 2005.

Following her arrest, she was fired by the County Commission Chairman Fred Hamic because she lost her bond to handle county funds.

Jones was released from the Geneva County Jail under a $5,000 bond.

If convicted on the felony ethics' violation, she could receive a maximum 10-year jail sentence.

Let's not dwell on personal lives---the issue is whether or not Ms. Jones is guilty. The one responsible for being indicted is none other than Ms. Jones--herself. If she has worked all those years with the county, it seems she would be very familiar with the rules and regulations regarding overtime. This is a poor county to be robbing the pot. Wasn't the individual signing the time cards ever suspicious of the overtime hours?????? Who has the answer? Way to go Sheriff Ward. It takes someone like you to step up to the plate. No one seems to have the UMP to do it----

Donna Jones is, or was before she was fired, the highest paid non-elected county employee. Even at base pay, without overtime, she made more than anybody else, including some elected officials. Why would she jeapordize a job like that, one most people would feel lucky to have? Greed arrogance = indictment. It doesn't make sense that "they" would arbitrarily choose Ms. Jones out of all the county employees to pick on. If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's probably a duck.

I am all for deputies getting overtime Lord knows they are underpaid and over worked...but stealing is stealing whether it be paper clip or $1000's of dollars. When you take something that is not yours that is stealing. Yes I am behind Ms. Jones until she is proven guilty, innocent until proven guilty is the way it is supposed to be in this country. What I don't like is all the name calling and assuming someone is guilty before anyone hears both sides and usually it is from people that don't have a clue of what is going on. Let's see all the facts first then see what happens.

Good job Mr. Ward! I applaud you for standing up for the citizens of Geneva. I have several family members that live in Geneva and a senior citizen Mother that lives there and this is their money that Mrs. Jones is stealing. I wish more elected officials would do their job for the people who elected them. I love Geneva and the honest people who still live there!

Well Fred Hamic and Greg Ward have finally succeeded in geting rid of Donna Jones. Fred stated that he was going to get rid of her long before he was in office. He also has a replacement for her. I also heard Fred talking about Donna and the situation on Saturday. I know for a fact that Fred Hamic is one of the most dishonest business man around. He would not hesitate to take you to the cleaners, just like he is doing to Miss Jones. Jesus ask the crowd of people who were wanting to stone the prostitute, if any of you people can throw out the first stone then do it. They all walked away. Well I know for a fact that Hamic, Ward and the rest of that bunch at the courthouse could not throw the first stone or last one. So go ahead get rid of Miss Jones and we will figure out how to rid the county of the rest.

I believe today is the first time I've ever heard any one who is behind Donna Jones. Donna is no better than a comman thief and THAT is why she was arrested. I hope to see her get the punishment she deserves. This was not a petty crime like stealing a pen or paper clip from work, this amounts to a whole lot of money. This overtime could have been used to pay our deputies who are out there protecting us every day. Shame on you, Donna.

Well, well. Donna is finally going to be held accountable. It couldn't have happened to a more deserving person.

While the situation really does make it embarrassing to admit that I'm a born-and-bred resident of Geneva County, I am ecstatic that the initiative was taken to correct the wrongs within the county's government that have been apparent for years. We should thank the local media outlets for their part in exposing the situation to common knowledge. Locally elected officials should keep in mind that service to the community should be the first item on the agenda. They are completely accountable to the taxpayers of this and every other county; and any wrongful action, such as Jones', is punishable by law. I have renewed faith in our legal system, and I sincerely hope that the ultimate result is Jones' prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.

I would like to know who Fred Hamic has in mind for Co Administrator....I bet he has had that person in mind before he even took office....If I am correct I believe when he was running he said he would get rid of Ms. Jones...I guess he has! I don't know for sure but I believe Ms. Jones is smarter than this to do something that would get her in trouble. I believe there is probably an explanation. I wonder if anybody else in the courthouse has ever taken anything from there that was not theirs...maybe printed something off of the internet using office paper, ink, etc...even on the counties time while they should be working, a paper clip, pen, even personal calls, long distance personal calls checking personal e-mails...hmmm what else can we think of. If you think about it all that is stealing too! " He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her." John 8:7 Good Luck Ms. Jones in clearing your name.A lot of people in Geneva are behind you!

Please be reminded that Mrs. Jones is innocent until proven guilty. This looks very much like a setup just so Fred could fire her. Geneva County politics at their very finest!!! The whole bunch in Geneva is in a good-ole' boy basket of pure evil!
