A Civil War veteran was honored inside Shiloh Cemetery in Clayhatchee.

David Billet served in the Civil War in the Eufaula unit and was given a formal ceremony Saturday.

Billet's great-great-grandson Jeff Brandy contacted Pam Holmes, a voluntary cemetery trustee, and asked her to review blueprints to find Billet's unmarked grave site.

Brandy traveled all the way from Italy to honor his great-great-grandfather with a brand new headstone.

At the end of the ceremony, Brandy received a Confederate flag.

It’s believed that Billet was born in October of 1845 in Barbour County and died somewhere between 1910 and 1930.
