An attorney for Samson mayor Clay King filed a not guilty plea for his client's arraignment hearing. King was not present for the proceeding.

Last March, the 44-year-old mayor allegedly stabbed Stephen Oates at a DeFuniak Springs motel.

King's estranged wife was reportedly at the motel with the Geneva County man.

No action was taken at Tuesday's court proceeding but the judge has placed Kings' pre-trial date for July 24th.

At a recent council meeting, King stated that he plans to qualify later this summer for a fourth term in office.

In ways, cousin Kathy is right. You are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. I know that I personally do not condemn all the Kings for what their dumb brother has done, some of the Kings (David and Libby) I have always thought were first in line when good sense was being doled out in that family. Some of the rest of that bunch got skipped over by the good sense and got an overdose of dumb and a mega dose of arrogance.

First off I always thought a person was innocent until proven quilty. People think alittle bit, you are badmouthing not only Clay but all the Kings, is that fair? All of you need to think what would you do in a simllar situation. The Kings all of them have always been up front with you. If you think I'm speaking out of hat well I know all of them really well for you see I'm their cousin and I'm not ashamed to write this and put my whole name which is Kathryn McCartney Morgan Gray, Libby, Buddy,David, Jamie, and Clay I hope you know I'm praying for all of you and hope to come to Samson soon. Love Kathy

Clay,I don't know you or a lot about you, mostly just what I have read. You have my sympathy in the (death) loss of your marriage--which can cause people to do crazy things to try to save your marriage or to respond in anger to what you feel was taken away from you, but what you are taking away from yourself right now is worse. I know, because I have been there, done that, got a t-shirt.--as they say. Even in this sinful world-one can hope and pray that you can still try to do what is right and responsible---we are all watching and waiting--put your secret hand shake back in your pocket and stop hiding behind your "good old boy not guilty plea". You can't tell it from the news, but a leader should think about others and not just saving his own butt.As far as the re-election goes, it just depends on how many "it's not what you know but who you know" voters, are voting that day.

Clay, do the citizens of Samson a big favor-do not run. It's bad enough you have not stepped down. We need an individual who cares about the citizens and Samson. You have never put them first. It has always been what you want.

Yes, I totally agree with everyone of you. How can he plea not guilty when he has already amitted to it. You better bet this Mr. Oates is getting some kind of payment. The Kings have always thought that they were bigger and the best in this town. Whatever goes up must come down, needless to say I will enjoy the falling of the empire!

Clay be a man and step down. You're embarrassing yourself and all of Samson. It's hard to believe you really expect anyone to believe you're not guilty, or are you planning a not guilty by reason of insanity plea? I've always kind of thought that anyway.

I am beginning to become embarrased for my former home town.. Clay is being allowed to make a laughing stock out of the entire town.

What a laugh! Clay King is obviously suffering from delusions. How can he plead not guilty when he's already admitted stabbing Mr. Oates? This is becoming a circus and guess who the clown is.You can bet there's more to this story than meets the eye. Mr. Oates is not a stupid man. Do you really think he's happy with $15000 for his injuries? The Kings are paying him off. I hope if Clay runs for mayor again that he is beaten soundly.
