The development group behind a proposed toll road connecting Montgomery to the Bay County International Airport met with citizens in Washington County.

They wanted to address any questions and concerns about the project.

"You wait five years; you wait 10 years; you wait 15 years, and I don't know if you can get on the road with a bulldozer the congestion will be so bad and it's going to be every road we got."

Explaining the attitudes towards a toll road connecting Montgomery to Bay County appeared to be the "focus" of the Focus 2000 members and proponents of the road project.

"You know, this isn't about us in this room today, what it's really about is our children and grandchildren to provide jobs."

Interested citizens filled the rows and the sign up sheet to ask questions, of focus members, like how would this superhighway affect their businesses.

Biddle says, "I have no heard much mentioned about Highway 79 in your presentation we work hard to pull what traffic we can off Highway 79 from Georgia and Alabama and Tennessee."

"This is not about a road; it's about quality of life in the future and the exiting part is that Vernon will have east of Vernon an interchange."

The mention of the interchange east of Vernon was one of few specific route references focus representatives say they announce route information within the next few months.

"The quicker we can get it paid for and get it back to the county, we will let that be known as soon as we really know."

The group assured residents their public/ private nature gave them more flexibility if for instance a house was in the way. They said if the state was building a road, they'd use eminent domain every time, but Focus insists they can change routes if need be.

Ron Meers, vice president of Focus 2000 for the Wiregrass, says more specific route plans will be available within three to six months.

Has an impartial economist studied the true impact on Washington County and Chipley? What will the proposed road due to the ecology of that area? The citizens deserve truth... it is their home and their land!
