Gospel FOCUS, which means, "Find out How You Can Sing, is an American Idol style gospel competition.

The show runs on the Word Network, and a local woman from Ozark is a semi-finalist. She will be competing June 19th in Harvey, Illinois in hopes of winning the grand prize, which includes an album recording contract.

Olivia Jones has been singing since she was 5 years old. And, for the past 10 years, members of the Christian Faith Fellowship Temple in Ozark have been piling in to hear her voice during Sunday service.

"When it comes to ministering from the heart, to change lives, she really lets God use her," Belinda McMiller, a friend of Olivia said.

At a young 28-years-old, Olivia is now ready to take her singing hobby to the next level.

Next month, she will be competing in the FOCUS Gospel Competition and doesn't know what to expect from her competitors.

"I’m just relying on the Lord,” Olivia says. “I don't know what to expect other than I’m going to do my best."

She has a shot at winning the grand prize of a contract with Mo-Life Records, $5000 dollars cash, a trip to Florida, the front cover of a magazine and 30 minutes on the Word Network.

We asked Olivia how she is getting ready for the competition.

She replied, “I sing! A lot.”

Olivia’s husband, Tyrie Jones, who even stands by her side, playing the saxophone in church, supports her 100 percent.

"I have to drop my nerves,” Tyrie says. “It makes me feel real good to see her doing what she loves."

Olivia and her husband say if the competition does not turn out the way they would like it to, it’s the not the end of Olivia’s journey. It’s only the beginning.

"We’re going to go on, record, and go to studios. We're going to do a lot of stuff like that," Tyrie adds.

And, no matter where the road takes her, Olivia will be doing what she does best. "Gospel music is the word; it’s God and if you don't live for God, it’s not coming from your heart."

Olivia is in the process of creating her own website so the public can track her progress, but for now, you can log onto Gospel FOCUS for more information.
