Officials are very cautious about mentioning the project, but residents in Campbellton would welcome any boost to the town.
Campbellton, the gateway to Florida on Highway 231 sees its fair share of traffic, but as for the numbers of people who work and live in the town, it pales in comparison. So, what could an ethanol plant that brings 50 employees with it offer to the city?
Campbellton Town Clerk Brenda Griffin said, "We have what 235 residents in the town and having a company of this magnitude in the area, it would be awesome"
To say Jackson County officials were cautiously optimistic about the project would be a gross understatement.
County administration even declined to comment on the resolution they actually voted for to attract jobs to this small town.
Ronald Barber, with Campbellton Farm Service, said, “We've got a couple of 7/11 stores and we've got a farm supply here and a grain elevator across the street; that's about as industry as it gets."
Jackson County Development Director Bill Stanton urged the administration not to comment on this. It's a local support resolution to bring the industry to the town. The reason? Not to get residents hopes too high this early on in the planning stages.
“Would this be one of the biggest things to happen, oh yes. We only have like three really, of what you'd define as a business," Griffin added.
So, will industry actually make it to Campbellton, Florida? Officials say it's far too early to tell, but in the town of Campbellton, it would seem that it would be well received.
