The Boll Weevil Circle's rural Southside has been discovered by developers.

Construction is underway on restaurants and retail establishments.

Enterprise Chamber of Commerce officials say the national economy has slowed, but construction and investment is near an all time high in and around the City of Progress.

"A big part of the growth is the four-laning from Highway 167 to 27 South. That’s providing interest for companies wanting to set-up business here," said Phil Thomas, with the Enterprise Chamber of Commerce.

Retirees moving in from the upper Midwest and Florida, in addition to new start-up businesses, many folks are hoping that the pot of gold is over the rainbow in Enterprise.

"Commercial and residential growth is going strong, partly due to Fort Rucker and folks coming here to retire from Florida," says Ricky Snellgrove with Coldwell Banker.

The national banking industry has slowed down, but here in Enterprise folks are lending and buildings are going up quickly.

"I think it's due to Fort Rucker and our chamber of commerce. They’re actively seeking new business growth," Jennie Clark with Troy Bank & Trust said.

Much of the Southside growth will surround a 30,000 square foot western-style steakhouse, which should be ready to open before Thanksgiving.

The new $100-million dollar Enterprise High School under construction is expected to bring business and residential growth to the city.
