Houston County will soon be passing the price of using plastic on to residents.

The Houston County Commission approved a request on Thursday to introduce a pilot program that would pass the service fee for using a credit card to pay property taxes onto the customer.

Currently, the county pays processing fees.

Officials estimate passing those fees onto the consumer will save the county $6000 to $7000 dollars a year.

About 10-percent of residents pay with credit cards.

“It will include anyone that wants to pay with a credit card, if their within the revenue commissioners area. Aside from that, once we've completed our test period, then we can evaluate whether we want to move this out into the rest of the county or not,” William Dempsey explained.

If the proposal is approved in Monday’s meeting, it will take affect October 1st.

It may have changed, but it used to be that credit card fees were always absorbed by the merchant and never passed on to the customer. The merchant, in this case, is the county so they should have to absorb the fees.

If you keep going up on property taxes give the working person a break.Let them pay any way they can. Better still elect a better governor and the other politions and start doing property taxes like we did prior to the riley clan
