K-9 Dog Mauls Two Dogs
Some residents in one Wiregrass county fear for their safety, after a sheriff's office K-9 mauls two Pomeranians. While neighbors say they want the dog gone, authorities say he poses no threat to the community.

Mrs109, how can a citizen be jealous about making cases tHOugh they are not in Law Enforcement? Get your facts straight before you make a posting. And obviously she dosen't read the paper! there is a difference in grant and seized money!

these dogs are very dangerous and there and the dogs keepers are careless because having a badge often means they are above the law

To anonymous(aka pink): Since you do read the paper - you failed to mention the write ups (and photos) of the drugs taken from the streets thanks to K9 Megara and her handler. Grant - seized drug money - what difference does it make? Abbeville is doing a great job. I can understand the jealousy though really..grow up and make a few cases - you might get a tahoe to.

abbeville's k-9 MEG has never escaped or attecked anyone that's because her fence is regulated, not 3 feet tall. and the last time i checked, koda has not made any drug cases, he just got hear cause every dog they get has to go back, it has been through two handlers in the short time he's been here and if it was my dogs he killed, i would have killed its black butt! i think it's the sheriff's responsibility to pay for the dogs, no matter whose yard they were in, you don't put a k-9 scruffy dog in a 3 foot fence and expect it not to jump it, there are kids in the neighborhood

Funny that a statement in the paper from the mayor stated to the citizens of Abbeville that the the Tahoe was purchased with a grant that was obtained by the city! Wonder who is lying, Mrs109 or the mayor?

Abbeville hasn't made any drug cases? Funny..Abbeville just purchased a 2008 Police Chevy Tahoe with seized drug money for K9 use -and a brand new crown vic - not to mention the amount of drugs that have been taken off of the streets. Keep up the good work APD!

So K9 handler, you say that your dog has escaped from the pen while under your control, so just how many times has that been in the last eight years? Nothing to worry about? Yeah right!! Nice try buddy, but a dual purpose drug dog on the loose IS something to worry about!! And your word is nothing to anybody!! Remember that when your dog attacks someone in the neighborhood!

No wonder that Abbeville hasn’t made any drug cases in the last few years the dog is past his prime.

Just get over it already. Everyone has their own story about what happened, even the people that were so called there. If my personal pet were to be in someone elses yard and get killed by their dog who was just protecting its territory then I would just have to live with that. I am responsible as the owner to know where my pet is at all times and would never let her out unattended. You can't bring the dogs back and the K-9 isnt going anywhere. So just let it go!

To the individual in Riverview there is nothing to worry about with Abbevilles K9. Abbevilles K9 is in a 6 foot high fence on top of concrete pad so it can't dig out. The gate is locked at all times while she is in it. The other times she is with me in my patrol vehicle. To date which has been 8 years she has escaped from my pen while she has been under my control. My K9 is in the type pen needed for a dog with the type of training she has. I give you my word there is no reason to be afraid.

I was there. The frantic neighbor tried to call me. my phone had been hit by lighting. so all I heard was the answering machine pick up with her frantic calls for help. When I ran over to where she was,the responding officers were arriving. I asisted the on duty officer to get him on his leash. The K-9 dog tried to come at us a couple of times. The officer got him under control and put him in the chain link fence. While walking around to the gated fence, I observed the kennel laying up beside the house. The deputy had been living at this residence for several weeks. The deputy was out of town for the day leaving the K-9 dog unatended. For them to say this was a dog fight. It is a ridiculous statement. These small dogs were not more than six lbs together in weight. I know because I have looked after them on several occasions while neighbors were out of town. The dogs never went further than the house property other than mine. This dog had been seen out of the fence several times

Last time I checked the Henry County K-9 was doing a great job!! At least when she's compared to your K-9 who has been on the street how long? This story has been blown out of proportion and is nothing more than an accident. The small dogs should have been in their own yard and not in the K-9 Deputy's yard!!

I live in Riverview Forrest which is near lake Eufaula north of Abbeville. I fear that the police dog that is our neighborhood could do the same thing. I feel this dog may also be a threat to the community I am told that dog is very aggressive.

Since this is such a good working dog why hasn't he made any drug arrest. I believe this is the 2nd k9 that henry county has had in the past 3 years and not enough drug cases to count on one hand.

I am shocked.. what is wrong with you people. this police dog has been working for your comunity, he is and has been doing his job . even if the dog was in the worng , ( all dogs involved where wrong ), lets find a solution that will make everybody happy ...and killing the animal will not be a propper solution . this dog is a working member of your comunity... and will continue doing a great job . i am not saying the poms where not ,,, but they also where in a place where they should not have been ... IN THE NEIGHBORS YARD.. SOMETIME THINGS HAPPEN FOR NO REASON ...ITS CALLED ACCIDENTS .. so let get the emotions aside and use brain... to prevent this from happening the officer knows what to do ... as for the neighbors, if you obtain new dogs , you also know what to do.. and killing is not the answer .. leash laws are there for a reason , but these day and age we give everyone a second chance no matter what they did .. just because we talking about dogs ,,, that dont apply to them??
