Wiregrass Electric Cooperative reports that as of noon Saturday, the majority of outages have been restored with the remainder scattered throughout Houston and Geneva Counties.

Radar indications are that the brunt of Tropical Storm Fay is yet to come and residents should be prepared for wind, rain and possible power outages,

“Wiregrass Electric doesn’t anticipate major outages that we have from full-blown hurricanes,” said Danny Ealum, Wiregrass Electric’s Director of Engineering and Operations, “however, this is a slow-moving storm and indications so far are that we will experience some outages. We have all available crews and equipment working with additional crews from north Alabama on the way. Our employees will be working around-the-clock as long as we have outages.”

Wiregrass Electric officials enforced their Emergency Restoration Plan on Friday with the dispatch center under full emergency status.

For safety, Wiregrass Electric reminds residents to beware of downed power lines and to assume that any downed line is live and report it to the utility or emergency personnel.

Wiregrass Electric customers are reminded that if their power does go out, to call the special toll-free outage hotline at 1-888-4-MY-OUTAGE (or 1-888-469-6882). For storm and safety information, visit Wiregrass Electric’s website at www.wiregrass.co-op.
