Emergency Management officials and the National Guard are on standby for possible evacuations, since there is a possibility of more rain, chances for flooding could increase.

"From my understanding, the river is supposed to crest maybe tomorrow afternoon, and it could be up to 22 feet which is flood level." Says Sgt. Dan Edwards of the Army National Guard

As Fay made her way through Dale County, those living along the Choctawhatchee River in Newton were on close watch.
Around 10 o'clock this morning, the river level was close to 12 feet.
"The storm has just dissipated or whatever so we feel a lot better this morning than we did last night," says Myron Whitman, a Newton homeowner

Since the river has made it through the brunt of the storm, officials are optimistic... But there is still water in the basin north of Dale County.
As a precaution, the Army National Guard 186th out of Dothan will be on duty, ready to assist with an evacuation plan for those living along the river.

“We’ll go assess the situation, and any families or anybody stranded we'll get in there and get them out. Right now, we are just playing it by ear-whatever happens, we'll adjust via them," says Sgt. Edwards

Some residents say they were expecting the worst and were fortunate this time around, but they are always prepared.
"We have a van if we need it, it's on reserve in case we have to load everything up. We have a neighbor up the road that offered to help us if we need to move, so we are in pretty good shape," says Whitman.

For some of the soldiers, this is their first time dealing with a possible flood evacuation.

They say they're hoping for the best, but are prepared to act if needed.
"That’s what I joined for; it gives you a sense of accomplishment," says Edwards.

The Dale County EMA will also be on standby to help residents by providing sandbags and tarps.

Again, the chance of flooding is slim, but residents are still advised to take the proper precautions.

If you live along the Choctawhatchee River and you do need assistance, the Dale County EMA helpline will be open until at least 8 o'clock tonight.

That number is 445-0859.
