A Pike County man was shot and killed during his arrest near Brundidge, Alabama this morning.

Sheriff Russell Thomas says Rickey Shackelford, 48, was wanted on a parole violation and a warrant out of Coffee County.

The sheriff says Shackelford was armed with a machete and a hunting knife and told deputies and probation and parole personnel he was not going back to prison.

Thomas says a deputy opened fire when Shackelford raised the machete.

The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the incident and the results will be presented to a Pike County grand jury.

I knew Rickey personally and he was not a bad guy and would never harm anyone...Rickey was a good guy and like his family member posted he didn't deserve to die like he did...He was a kind hearted guy and wouldn't intentionally hurt anyone so get the whole story before you judge anyone...but I don't see where it's your place to judge anyways you aren't God

For those of you who don't know Rickey or what really happen in his home on Friday you really shouldn't get on here and make comments like the person wanted to be Anonymous. Yes Rickey had many run ins with the law but I can tell you that he NEVER done anything towards an innocent child or killed anyone. He didn't deserve to die like he did. I am sure that the news media is only airing what they have been told and I am sure that isn't the whole truth. You don't know his parents side of the story of what happen. You only got what the Pike Co. S.O. has told the news media. So don't judge someone with only half of the story wait for the whole story.

I am sure Edward means well, but doesn't have a clue!! Think about it, a man with a 12" knife and a machete is a few feet from you. He charges you with the machete raised and ready to kill you. You have about 1 second to react before you die. It is ridiculous to think you can draw a weapon take deliberate aim at a knee which is moving very fast and HOPE you hit it. In all likelyhood you will miss and end up dead. Later they might name a street after you! Police are trained to use deadly force as a last resort, I do not know of any police agency anywhere that teaches officers to shoot at the knees. I am a police officer, I have used deadly force, I had a split second to respond,it is hard enough to hit the torso, much less a knee when it is moving at you, you are scared, and it is either you or him. It is easy to judge, just keep in mind this is real life and death and not tv. Let the justice system judge, not someone who was not there and obviously has a grudge against police in genera.

What I was told from one of my family members is that the Pike Co. Sheriff office illegally came into his home. I know my cousin had past run with the law and he was well known with Pike County. But what has been said about him doesn't seem like Rickey. I sure hope the ABI can find out what really happenend. But you know they are going watch each others back doesn't matter if they are in the wrong or right.

The cop that shot the man in brundige, should be up on murder charges. Don't they teach them how to shoot below the knee. He only had a knife, How fair is that................
