The Alabama Board of Education says that in Spring of 2009, students must show proof of citizenship in order to be admitted into a 2 year college.

According to Dothan Latino advocate Rich Lopez that could eventually take away from the state's economy.

"We are not developing the people we have here with the capacity here to fill jobs we are setting them up and the day will come I am sure when they will be needed here and its not going to be available." Says Rich Lopez of Rich Co Consulting Service.

Some Americans are worried the government is paying for the tuition of illegal aliens, but Pell grants can only go to documented citizens.

"They pay all tuition. We do not get any stipends; we do not get any scholarship so that is a myth that we are creating an additional expense." Says Lopez

A common misconception is that illegal immigrants cannot get jobs after they get an education. Turns out they can, but it is a lengthy process.

"There is a path for these kids to get into the main stream and get an education and a job," says Lopez.

"We've done several of those visas, they are more complicated in getting, but we have shortages of doctors here and as you know in this community, we have doctors from other countries," says Stephen McGowan, Attorney at Law.

Currently, there is no federal law that requires anyone to prove citizenship in order to get into a 4 year college.

Some say in order to prevent problems something has to be done for the future.

"The fact of the matter is, we are trying to put toothpaste back in the tube, and that is not going to happen. We have 20 million people here and if they think we can bus them back all at one time that is not going to happen," says McGowan

Advocates say for now, all illegal immigrants in Alabama can do is focus on studying and saving money for 4 year schools.

They are hoping this November’s presidential election will change the policy nationwide.

Undocumented childern shouldn't pay for the crimes of their parents! Remember the saying "a father is not one that creates but the one who educate", these students have been here for most of their lives, they have been educated here and share in the values of America! How can we just throw then out because their parents commited a crime? Remember this is a country of immigrants, many europeans where not ask for documentation when they first arrived here? Many of the "undocumented student's" acenters were here way before the europeans got here! So lets not talk about sending them anywhere, becuase all the decendents of europeans are here on this land illegaly. Please know your history, know US foreign policy and how all these factors contribute to the "problem" as many indicate of illegal immigration! Please dont blame the victims (undocumented people) for the crimes that governments and politicians pay in contributing to their migration north to find a better way of life!

This is just another ploy from the Two-Year College Chancellor who wants to boster his credentials for his 2010 bid for governor. It's sad that he would take away the possibility of education from these people knowing that they are still paying for themselves. This move is reducing the revenue and enrollment of the Colleges he leads.

Why is this even being discussed? Does the word "illegal" have any meaning? The definition of Illegal Alien according to the IRS & Dept of the Treasury is "Illegal Alien - Also known as an "Undocumented Alien," is an alien who has entered the United States illegally and is DEPORTABLE if apprehended" Why is it okay to be an "illegal" alien and request so many rights, yet "illegal" actions by legal citizens are punished daily!! Why isn't the first action of an "illegal" alien punished for being "ILLEGAL"?? I am offended by the mear thought of so many "Rights" being requested and bestowed on these ILLEGAL persons. Go away and come here legally, then there won't be a problem!!

No, Illegals should NOT be allowed to do anything in this country, but be sent home. They cannot be in this Country here legally, so why would we allow active criminals to use our valuable schools and keep out American Citizens? Absolutely NOT, send every (Illegal Alien) Criminal back home with their entire family!

I can not believe how many people are here in the US illegally. Especially around the wiregrass. We have atleast 3 mexican grocery stores around Enterprise alone and everything is in Spanish. They do not even have to be a citizen of the US to get WIC....that is money I am paying in to the system! I work my butt off and I have to keep them up????....what is wrong with America??? ..I say we ship them off. Its time to get our country back!

Every illegal alien that takes a seat in college prevents an American student from getting a college education. It is ridiculous to allow illegals into our colleges when we need so many educated citizens to improve our country.

If they are illegal, send them back home and let them apply to come here legally. Then, if they qualify, let them attend schoo. Don't pat them on the back because they are illega!

No, no absolutely not. No illegal alliens in colleges and no illegal aliens in my country. Arrest, incarceration and DEPORTATION....si se puede!!!

I would just like to say if they are illegal aliens, why can they work here, if they are illegal aliens, why can they live here, as well as shopping here, and not even speak or read the language which is english, also if illegal's are allowed all these luxuries then wouldn't that make drug dealers be illegal pharmacist? You must agree you can reward people who r illegal and hurt everyone else who needs the help, jobs,. school grants etc..
