The Enterprise Police Department continues to investigate the murders of James Mathew Helms and Scott Allen Heib. Both were murdered October 2, 2007 at their residence on Coffee County Road 622.

Along with the Alabama Bureau of Investigations (A.B.I.), District Attorney’s Office, and Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences (D.F.S.), the Federal Bureau of Investigations (F.B.I.) and Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (A.T.F.) are now assisting in the investigation.

In May 2008, A.T.F. identified the original purchaser of the Taurus .44 special revolver that was used during the murders.

Law enforcement has identified the person that purchased the gun from the original owner and have determined the gun changed ownership a third time and are in the process of identifying that person.

The Enterprise Police Department continues to seek the assistance of the public in identifying the owner of the murder weapon and are seeking anyone with information concerning the murders.

Governor Bob Riley authorized a reward of $10,000 for anyone providing information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the murders of Helms and Heib.

If you have any information concerning this case please contact the Enterprise Police Department at 334-347-2222.
