"This is a monumental day for Country Crossing," said Developer Ronnie Gilley as he announced a land deal for his project Tuesday.

The land necessary for phase one of Country Crossing has been closed on. Ronnie Gilley says he hopes to break ground on October 27.

The land, also known as Southern Farms, is 1.5 miles south of the original plot planned out for Country Crossing and it is about 300 acres less than the original site. But Gilley says the site compares well when considering overall "usable land" for the project.

You may remember that additional archaeological studies were needed on the 700 acre plot desired for the project previously. Gilley said he was worried about his investors and any further delays on the project timetable.

7-10 attractions are planned to be constructed simultaneously. They include themed restaurants, a bingo pavilion, fairgrounds and an amphitheater.

Gilley says with the current financial situation as it is important to get this deal done quickly.

"Our investors are in place for phase one. We have closed on all the property necessary for phase one, and will bring it to fruition. So the negotiating process is out of the way in that respect. But yes, spin off opportunities there will be further negotiations taking place," said Gilley.

Gilley says he has not ruled out going back to the original property owner for more possible land opportunity in the future.

So phase one has a green light, from investors to land studies, and dirt is expected to be moved and roads paved starting later this month.

He says he hopes to be open for business with phase one of the venues next fall.

He says there may be concerts held before the project is completed, but BamaJam will remain in Enterprise in 2009.
