A Geneva County town is in mourning following the tragic loss of a longtime elected official, who tragically passed away shortly after Tuesday night's run-off election.

Samson city councilwoman, Jeanetta Hobdy, ran unopposed for her third in office in the August municipal election.

She was first elected back in 2000.

Mrs. Hobdy was a highly respected Samson Elementary School teacher, who retired a few years ago.

City officials say she was at a campaign gathering and complained of not feeling well.

She then died a short time later at her home of an apparent heart attack.

Mrs. Hobdy leaves behind a husband and daughter.

    She was 56-years-old.

We are saddened for the sudden loss of our friend, and family member Jeanetta. We appreciate her life of service to our community that we all continue to love. We pray that our family in Samson will continue to build the city and bring all members together to maintain the FAMILY history that it has always been known for. Samson must look at its pioneers and be willing to learn the lessons from them and invest in its young in order for the city to continue its legacy that it worked so hard to achieve many years ago. Jeanetta lived a short life but has left many reasons behind for the city to move forward. Pray for the city, the community and the neighborhoods especially that they be revitalized. Jeanetta wanted this for her city, for the city in which I had my humble beginnings. WE must know that if a city is to survive, then it must produce, it must invest in its youth and share the resources, build up, so that all of its citizens reap the benefits: Samson,Please do this for JEANETTA!
