    Dothan Standoff Ends With Former Law Enforcement Officer In Custody Save Email Print

    Shortly after 5:00 P.M Thursday Dothan Police SWAT Team entered a residence at Oates Estates on Flynn Road in Dothan at took 33 year old Chris Ford into custody.

    Ford had allegedly barricaded himself in and refused to submit to police.

    Ford was rushed to a Dothan hospital with a self-inflicted knife wound to the right side of his upper body.

    Chris Ford was a former police officer in Ozark. In 2004, he was shot four times while apprehending a suspect. He recovered, but last year was dismissed from the Ozark Police Department.

    Earlier, In April 2007 he was served with a domestic violence warrant, which was later dismissed.

    He worked briefly for the Midland City Police Department most recently.

    Sheriff Wally Olsen says he was contacted by Ford early Thursday and said the man was suicidal.

    Officials say Chris Ford had current warrants for first-degree burglary, domestic violence, and violation of a protection order after another altercation with his ex-wife early Thursday.

    During the stand-off Oates Estates was evacuated, and school children dropped off at the Vaughn Blumberg Center nearby to be picked up by parents.

    The American Red Cross responded and provided food and beverages for those who could not return home.
