Elderly Woman Struck, Killed by Loose Tire

An elderly woman was killed Sunday afternoon in a freak traffic accident on Interstate-10 in Jackson County.

The mishap happened at the westbound Rest Area on I-10 shortly before 2:00 PM Sunday.

The Florida Highway Patrol says a 79-year-old Cecilla Gagnon of Deming, N.M., was killed when she was struck by a tire which had come off of a semi tractor trailer rig.

Troopers say the woman was walking on a sidewalk at the rest area. The tires which had separated from the front axle traveled off the highway into the westbound rest area where woman was struck suddenly.

The woman died at the scene.

The truck driver, 35 year old Brian Sealey of Leland, North Carolina, has not been charged.

The investigation is on going and troopers say charges are pending on the outcome of the probe.

First of all I would like to send my condolances to the Gagnon family. Secondly my heart goes out to both parties here. Sometimes things just happen and there is no way to explain it. Unfortunately the outcome of this accident was unfortunate for everyone involved. My husband as well as my dad and brothers are all tractor trailor drivers and the truth is no matter how hard to try to prevent things and watch out for everybody freak accidents happen. I hope and pray that everyone involved will turn to God for answers instead of hear say and the media. You will all be in my prayers.

This story is about my grandmother. In all actuality, this is very likely (tho never assume) NOT an accident. The investigation is ongoing, but any truck driver knows to check bolts. The probability of a tire with tightened bolts randomly flying off and killing my grandmother is not very high. Although this mans life is already changed forever, I can only hope it was an accident and not negligence on his part to be responsible for the vehicle he was driving as any other person operating a motor vehicle is.

Why would charges be pending? If this happened the way it's written this an accident. ???
