As many people try to make ends meet during these rough economic times among the first expenses cut is often insurance, but untimely and tragic situations can often have family members making tough choices.

Last Friday, smoke inhalation from a fire at this family home killed 41 year old Daniel Bryant.

Over the weekend family members came together to mourn his loss, but when burial arrangements came up there was a problem.

"Then we found out he didn't have any insurance at all” Said Bryant's Sister Elnora Williams it had just expired"

“It is hard because you want to put your loved ones away the best you possibly can, so when finances get involved...i don't know about everyone else but I don't have 75 hundred dollars in a bank account,” said Bryant's younger sister Tonja.

Those in the funeral home business like County Coroner Robert Byrd say this situation is more common than people might think.

"A lot of families decide if they're going to pay the electricity bill or the food bill or car payment and often times insurance is one of the first things dropped"

The 13 siblings have worked since Monday to raise the money, they've set up a donation account but they still have a long way to go.

"Situations where people are caught off guard three are services that you can provide for less than that,” said Byrd. “But on the average it can be 8-10 thousand dollars easily."
