Coffee County’s emergency management director says his office has received an important piece of equipment that could serve any Wiregrass County, but in the same breath. John Tallas adds that he hopes it'll never be used.
The Alabama Department of Health funded nearly $40,000 for a morgue trailer. In the event of a natural or manmade disaster, the refrigerated trailer will be able to store up to eighteen bodies.
Similar equipment is stationed in mobile, Montgomery, and outside of Birmingham.
Tallas says it's depressing to make such planning, but the E.M.A. office must be prepared for any emergency:
Tallas has also received a state homeland security grant which will pay for a pick-up truck to haul the trailer.
