It doesn't take long for people to find out their shot at a multi million jackpot is only a convenience store trip away.

Powerball tickets are being sold for the first time ever in Florida and the state's lottery ticket outlets say people are buying.

"They are doing pretty well. Since we opened today, everyone has been buying them. Actually, people were coming in last night to buy them, but we could not sell them. Everyone has been pretty excited about buying them" says Niah Rodman, a Store Clerk at Panhandle Package.

Powerball tickets are one dollar.

You pick 5 numbers from 1 to 59 and your Powerball jackpot number from one to 39. But then you also have a chance to "power play" which means you can multiply your winnings for up to 5 times.
Florida is the 30th state to jump on the Powerball band wagon, and avid players are happy about it.

"I think it's great, I've always wondered why Florida never had Powerball. They have their own lottery, but not the big games, now they are going for the big money and I am right there with them" says Steve Thomas of Birmingham, AL.

Each week the jackpot varies, this week the Jackpot is at an estimated 1hundred 5 million dollars, and some people can't even think about what they would want to do with all that money.

"I haven’t ever won anything, but I can't resist coming in here because I am on my way to Birmingham and if I don't play I'll never win." Says Thomas.

But then there are those that are already making plans.

"I would retire and buy myself a fishing boat." Says Greg Bynum, who bought 5 tickets.

"I would travel, retire, and help people out." Says Melody Zelmhardy of Campbellton.

Winning jackpots average 38 million dollars. The highest ever was 365 million in 2006.

The drawing will take place around 11 o'clock Eastern Time in Orlando, Florida.
