Gov. Jeb Bush wants the Florida Senate to know that if the state doesn't want to pay $310 million to bring Scripps Research Institute here, other suitors will.

Bush says this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Florida because the California-based biotechnology giant can easily find another home. Bush made his remarks in a letter to Senate President Jim King.

King is concerned over the price of the economic incentive package being offered to help Scripps expand to Florida.

The Legislature begins a special session next week to decide whether to use economic stimulus money to pay the startup cost for a new research facility in West Palm Beach County.

Bush has said Scripps will generate $1.6 billion in additional income, boost the state's gross domestic product by $3.3 billion over the next 15 years and create 6,500 jobs.
