Georgia Lawmakers could vote to ban video lottery
Ban could stop plans to build a casino in Underground Atlanta

ATLANTA (AP) - A Savannah Republican has introduced a measure to ban video lottery terminals that is aimed at silencing a $450 million proposal to build a casino in downtown Atlanta.
State Rep. Burke Day's proposal introduced Monday would
specifically ban the video lottery terminals, which supporters
compare to electronic lottery machines.
Gambling is illegal in Georgia, but state law doesn't specifically ban the devices.
The devices are at the centerpiece of an unsolicited proposal by
Atlanta developers to redevelop Underground Atlanta and build a
29-story hotel with more than 5,500 of the terminals.
The developers say it could ultimately pump more than $300 million each year into the state's lottery-funded education programs.
