A gunman went on a deadly rampage spanning several locations in southern Alabama Tuesday, killing at least 10 people before turning the gun on himself.
Officials say the bloodshed started in Kinston in Coffee County at the gunman's mother's house. He burned her home to the ground, killing his mother and her dog. Officials have not been able to enter the house outside to determine if she was shot.
The shooting rampage then continued at a Samson home where 5 people were killed, including a child.
The gunman shot at a state trooper's car, striking the vehicle seven times and wounding the trooper with broken glass.
The shooter then took aim at a “Big Lil” store in Samson where one woman was gunned down.
The suspect headed out of town on Highway 52. Between Samson and Geneva, the gunman rear-ended a motorist as he shot wildly from his vehicle. A young man in a truck was struck and killed.
He then killed another individual at Samson Pipe and Supply on Highway 52, then another person at the Hobo Pantry, a service station, also on Highway 52.
The shooter also fired random shots at Geneva Wal-Mart, injured several shoppers.
The shooter ended up at Reliable Metal Products where he fired an estimated 30 rounds. One of the bullets hit Geneva Police Chief Frankie Lindsey, who was saved by his bullet proof vest, the safety department said.
Police found him death with a self-inflicted gunshot.
His name was not released.
