Troy University Chancellor Jack Hawkins spoke to Rotary members Tuesday about the ever evolving industry of secondary education.
Dr. Hawkins noted the technology shift towards computers over the last decade and how that impacts the classroom.
With distance learning courses at Troy and other universities, students all over the world can learn from teachers in the Wiregrass.
Hawkins says students need to remain competitive in a global market.
“We've got to make sure that our students understand from other cultures and other economies because it's in that culture they're going to compete and we want them to be ready for that experience,” said Hawkins.
He also urged the group to support the movement for a new library in Dothan, citing the importance of libraries in education.
