"This just reinforces that domestic violence can rapidly, rapidly get out of control," Ozark Police Chief Tony Spivey said at a Thursday morning press conference.

Wednesday around 4:45 p.m. Ozark Police and emergency workers arrived to the scene of a house on Wilson Avenue on Ozark. There they found 31-year old David Dunkin dead of a single stab wound to the chest.

Investigators arrested 16-year old Cody Lee Long and charged him with the murder of his step-father. Police say Long and his mother declined to speak with investigators before talking to an attorney.

For now they believe it was a domestic incident turned violent, and deadly.

Neighbors were shocked as they watched the scene unfold before their eyes.

"I saw the police were going in and out and the ambulance just arrived," says Pat Pattberg who lives across the street. "Then I saw them bring out the body and put it in the ambulance."

Pattberg says he hasn't seen anything like this in his 35-years on Wilson Avenue.

Chief Spivey described the murder weapon as being "dagger-like," and not a household knife. He says it is the first murder in Ozark in a year and a half.

Chief Spivey says domestic incidents go up when the temperatures do the same.

"We do see an increase in the summer months," says Spivey. "There's an increase in domestic violence, or at least domestic disputes. I just believe peoples' tempers run short(this time of year), they get short fuses."

The mother and a 13-year old son were both home but Spivey says neither were involved in the incident. He says investigators have not been able to identify any lingering family problems from anyone in the house.

Neighbors say the family has only lived on Wilson Avenue for about 5 months, and nobosy seemed to know them very well.

"You see them come in the house and go out and that was it," says Pattberg. "You never saw them in the yard or anything."

Chief Spivey says no drugs or alcohol are believed to be involved in this incident. Dunkin was pronounced dead at 5:45 p.m. by Dale County Coronor Woody Hilbolt.

The 16-year old Long is being held at Dale County Jail without bond.
