Law enforcement officers in Henry County took thousands of dollars worth of cocaine off the streets. But they say they're still losing their grip on controlling the narcotics.

Sheriff Will Maddox with Henry County Sheriff's Office says investigators pulled over a F150 pickup truck on Highway 431 by County Road 41 in Abbeville around 1 a.m. Friday morning.

"The K-9 officer was the one who made the stop and he ran Trix around the vehicle and the dog did hit on the vehicle," said Sheriff Maddox.

That's when Trix allegedly found more than nine ounces of cocaine on the driver 42-year-old Ronald Coachman.

Authorities say the K-9 also found $1,400 in cash on the passenger, 36-year-old Adolph Fisher.

Sheriff Maddox said, "They told us they paid $8,000 for the cocaine and probably the street value would have been around $30,000 and it would have sold of course probably in that week."

Sheriff Maddox says the two were driving to Panama City from Atlanta to sell the drugs.

Investigator Nick Cheek was one of the deputies who made the stop. He says without Trix they may have missed the narcotics.

"She can smell things; I mean we very well may have easily overlooked the residue amount that was there," says Cheek.

Even with Friday morning's bust, Sheriff Maddox says it's just a small bite out of a larger problem.

Sheriff Maddox says, "We are actually losing the war on our drug problem, we may win a battle or two but as far as the wars concerned, we're losing the war on drugs."

Both suspects in Friday morning’s drug bust are being held in the Henry County Jail with a $750,000 bond each. They are both being charged with trafficking cocaine.

Sheriff Maddox says until there is more man power and funds, the office will continue to struggle on completely clearing the highway of drug trafficking.
